Nutan Bal Shikshan Sangh initiated its journey by opening the first “balwadi” (preschool) in a coastal village of Bordi, in the Thane district of Maharashtra. The organization’s key objectives can be summarized as follows:
Promoting Child Education: NBSS aims to advance child education by conducting research and disseminating new educational theories tailored to Indian conditions.
Supporting Educational Authors: NBSS encourages individuals engaged in child education to write original books on the subject.
Guest Lectures: They organize guest lectures for parents and teachers to enhance their understanding of child education.
Educational Publications: NBSS publishes a magazine – Shikshan Patrika – for teachers and parents to highlight new theories in child education.
Teacher Training: The organization started a training colleges or classes for teachers to equip them with new methods in child education.
Educational Apparatus: NBSS encourages the development of scientifically sound and cost-effective educational materials within India.
Psychological Research: NBSS plans to establish a psychological research institute.
Educational Conferences: The organization conducts educational conferences to promote new ideas in child education.
Gijubhai Badheka – the protagonist for early childhood education in India.
Nutan Bal Shikshan Sangh (NBSS), also known as the New Child Education Association, was established in 1926 by Gijubhai Badheka and Tarabai Modak at the Dakshinamurti Foundation in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. This institution is a pioneer in the field of child education, with a primary mission of spreading awareness about child education throughout India.
Gijubhai, a key figure in NBSS, published a small teaching magazine in Gujarati, Hindi, and Marathi. This magazine delved into child development, child teaching, child culture, and child life, enlightening numerous families and helping them form a more accurate understanding of children’s education.
Due to his deep affection for children, Gijubhai earned the endearing nickname ‘Moochhali Ma,’ meaning “mother with whiskers.”
