Esteemed Positions Held by
Padma Bhushan Tarabai Modak
1937 – Mahatma Gandhi entrusted her with the task of designing the basic education system.
The All-India Education Conference session, presided over by Tarabai Modak, was a government initiative contributing to the pre-primary education policy.
1946 to 1951 – she served as a member of the then Bombay State Legislative Assembly for 5 years.
1947 – Smt. Tarabai Modak was appointed as a member of the committee for Basic Education program, focusing on pre-primary education curriculum and related training in Bombay State.
She served as the Chairperson of the All-India Child Education Department twice. Additionally, she was appointed to several other State and Central Government Education Committees.
1949 – she had the opportunity to speak at the International Montessori Conference in Italy.
Tarabai Modak also received a Badge of Honour, from the Government of Zambia.
March 31, 1962, a grand gathering was organized at the University Stadium, near Churchgate Station in Mumbai, in honour of Padma Bhushan Tarabai Modak. The event was attended by Shri. Yashwantrao Chavan, then Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
1962 – she was awarded the prestigious civilian honour of the ‘Padma Bhushan’.

1972 – Exemplary teacher award given by the Maharashtra State Governor.
1975 – Dalit Mitra title given by Maharashtra Governor.
1978 – Maharashtra Science Council Award and Honor Roll.
1978 – Ichalkaranji’s Fi Foundation awarded Rs.10,000 and a badge of honour.
1979 – During the International Year of the Child, India’s National Award of Rs 20,000/- was presented for her exemplary work for child welfare by the Vice President.
December 1980 – Exemplary mother/woman on behalf of Matoshree Maisaheb Parkhe Smriti Nyas, Pune.
January 1981 – Received Rs.5000 from the Chief Minister of Maharashtra in commemoration of late Savitribai Phule.
1985 – Smt. Janaki Devi Bajaj National Award of Rupees 1 lakh.
1992 – Smt Asha Bhosle Social Work Award
1992 – Smt Ramabai Thackeray Social Award
26 January 1985 – Honoured with the Padma Shri award from the Hon’ble President of India.
